Highway 101 Pinot Noir, Central Coast, California 2018(750ml)
California’s Central Coast wine region is known for its long coast and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The cooling air flow from the fog and afternoon ocean breezes spill into coastal valleys creating a long growing season and encouraging the slow, even ripening of varieties such as Pinot Noir. On the nose, you'll get floral notes of cherry blossoms, while on the palate you'll pick up dried cranberry, sage and strawberry fruit flavors. The crisp finish refreshes the palate for the next bite of food. This is a wine that works with a wide range of foods because of soft tannins and bright acidity.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION AREA
Much of this area between Los Angeles and San Francisco is former ocean bottom. A high concentration of sand and limestone combined with the rocky soils deposited by the runoff from the surrounding mountains create a unique soil composition. Excellent drainage and low nutrition combine to encourage root development, reduced vine growth, a lower water-to-sugar ratio and highly concentrated flavors.
